Hey folks, it’s been a while!
I’m starting to consider putting out a newsletter every season, rather than every month, unless I got something super exciting that I simply must tell you. Especially since I did not post anything all winter. I have not been up to a lot, but I am continuing the grind of an indie author with my numerous projects and trying to find my readership.
My Rot and Read wrapped up at the beginning of February. I must admit, I really enjoyed myself! Having something to look forward to and snuggling up on a Monday evening with my first book baby was really a vibe I did not know I needed. I loved reading to those who tuned in every week on Discord. The chat always cracked me up and once it was over, I was sad. On our final Rot day, I read everyone the prologue to Death and Rest, and I think I really got my Rot and Readers pumped for his release in September. Know I am absolutely going to be returning to the Rot and Read on the one-year anniversary of Death and Rest.
Speaking of DNR, I am currently working on my 5th draft! I’m hoping to wrap it up before the end of the week then take the rest of March off to come back to him with a fresh mind (and catch all the pesky errors I missed in this round of drafts). I’m reading him out loud to my husband and he’s giving me feedback on my pacing, characters, and writing. (He has a favourite character by the way, and I’m low-key wondering if this character is going to be the next fan-favourite).
Currently Death and Rest is 147 000+ words (10k LESS than Time, Swords, and Blood) and 30 pages longer??? I’m still figuring out the math there, but I’ve concluded that perhaps it’s a mix of chapter breaks, POV changes and extra dialogue/ shorter paragraphs? We’ll see. And just to ease everyone’s minds, he has 40 chapters, not 18 (Looking at you past Hannah who made 18 chapters in a 157 000 word book).
In other news, my cover artist is working on the cover! They are the same cover artist I used for Time, Swords, and Blood. I love them, they understand the vision, and I’m excited for the cover reveal in June/July. They gave me 4 sample sketches to choose from late last year, and they absolutely nailed what existed in my brain. I look forward to readers guessing which character will be looking back at them this time around. (My husband has already guessed who it is, hehe)
This is your regular reminder that Death and Rest is available for preorder on my website! He is paired as a bundle, which will be including extra goodies, hence why he’s priced at $35. Once again, I’m so excited for people to get their hands on this. I put a lot of thought into this release and it feels a little nerve-wracking that we’re already 6 months away from DNR’s release! If you haven’t already, mark your calendar’s for September 20th! He will be coming to eBook platforms and bookstores alike along with some extra goodies to partake from. This will also be the day of my launch party and I will release a newsletter when tickets are live.
What’s Else is new:
-I was on another podcast and if you want to give it a listen, you can find the recording here:
https://youtu.be/X5Jg0lVAVB8?si=5tgLFOwV7Qx7Ew3m
-I just did a market this past weekend and was able to sell 4 books, 1 preorder and 2 bookmarks. I also traded a book for a book with my booth buddy author Kristy Lee. She writes contemporary romance and romantasy, you can find her website here: https://authorkristy.com/
-I got to live every booklovers dream and opened/manned a bookshop for a few hours last month (as a favour to the shop owner). I sold some books and watched all of Dragon Age Absolution while there. If you’re a fan of local authors and want to support the only indie bookstore in Oshawa, you should check out Book Dragon’s Den. The owner is wonderful and sometimes you’ll see me hanging out in there!
What am I reading?
House of Rayne by Harley Laroux (Book Club pick)
and
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree
I rated Pumpkin Spice Café (the last book I was reading during a newsletter post) 2 stars. I basically raged my way through most it. I was absolutely not the target audience.
I included a picture at the bottom of this blog of one of our cats (Karlach) hanging out on me while reading DNR to my husband. Enjoy.
Anyway! I hope everyone is doing well and we’ll chat again soon(ish)
