August got away from me so expect a second newsletter this month to mark the opening of preorders for Death and Rest. Remember: every preorder gets a treat and the very first preorder gets an extra special additional treat.
What am I reading?
I took a break from Priory of the Orange Tree to dive into Heart-Shaped Karaoke Box by my friend E.R. Hann. I’m currently a couple chapters in and I’m hoping to interview her for a future blog when I finish. (Hey girl, I know you’re reading this. hehe)
I just was not feeling the former and plan to return to it, but for now I need a break from it.
How was my August Signing?
I had a lot of fun at my Indigo signing! It felt surreal to be sitting in Indigo with my books. I’m still learning how to pitch my book, but those who stopped to talk to me were super sweet. I hope they all enjoy their copies. The staff was also very kind and one of them even bought a copy. Apparently this location doesn’t get a lot of fantasy authors stopping in for signing so I’ll definitely be returning (and maybe hitting several other shops) in the new year.
I was able to sell 7 copies of Time, Swords, and Blood and also 1 eBook while there! That is a record selling day for me, second only to my launch party last year.
In other news…
I reached my wordcount goal for Death and Rest and the count only keeps growing! By the next September blog I also hope to be finished my third draft of DNR. Then I will give myself a break, put myself on a mini writing retreat and then return for the fourth draft with fresh eyes. I learned a lot from Time, Swords, and Blood and one of the lessons was to give myself a break between drafts. I absolutely refuse to put myself through the same thing I did with my last launch, NOT that it wasn’t so much fun, but you know.
I’m also presently working on a LORE page on my website! You’ll probably not see it active for a while. There’s a lot I want to put into the page (a map, myths and legends, info on the gods etc.) I’ve had a couple people ask about putting maps and glossaries in future books and at this time, I’m just not about it. I do want readers to have a place to reference though, so I thought a LORE page would be a good compromise. I’m really excited about it.
I imagine in-world art, answers to questions left open from Time, Swords, and Blood, and other fun information that will pull readers deeper into the world of Alhan in time for the release of DNR.
